Navy has canceled its four-year series with UNLV football, which was scheduled to begin with a game in Las Vegas on Oct. 11, 2014.

The Midshipmen, who had been playing as an independent since 1879, agreed earlier this year to join the Big East in 2015. There’s a chance that the move could be pushed ahead a year, but even if it isn’t, a full conference schedule doesn’t leave room on the slate for UNLV. Navy has already said it will keep traditional non-conference rivalries with Army, Air Force and Notre Dame.

The series was scheduled to be a modified home-and-home, with Navy playing at UNLV in 2014 and 2017, and the Rebels traveling to Annapolis, Md., in 2015 and 2016. Other non-conference games already scheduled include two-game series with UCLA and Idaho, the second game of a series at Arizona and a home game against Louisiana Tech.
