Navy has canceled its four-year series with UNLV football, which was scheduled to begin with a game in Las Vegas on Oct. 11, 2014.

The Midshipmen, who had been playing as an independent since 1879, agreed earlier this year to join the Big East in 2015. There’s a chance that the move could be pushed ahead a year, but even if it isn’t, a full conference schedule doesn’t leave room on the slate for UNLV. Navy has already said it will keep traditional non-conference rivalries with Army, Air Force and Notre Dame.

The series was scheduled to be a modified home-and-home, with Navy playing at UNLV in 2014 and 2017, and the Rebels traveling to Annapolis, Md., in 2015 and 2016. Other non-conference games already scheduled include two-game series with UCLA and Idaho, the second game of a series at Arizona and a home game against Louisiana Tech.

  1. Will the Rebels be fielding a team in 2014? I don't think the taxpayers can continue to fund this program.

  2. Can all of you Vegas and UNLV hating trash please go back to whichever Coast you came from and stop polluting LV with your stupidity!

Las Vegans are proud of our city and our school - UNLV!

  3. Not a good sign for our program....I'm sick of all of these letdowns.

  4. Look at Duke Football - Not exactly a Perennial Powerhouse like their Basketball Program. It's about the Conference you're in and it's strenght. Add the Universities Facilities when Recruiting and Academic Standing. You must rank High in a Few of these Categories or you will be left behind of the Mega Million University Franchises.

UNLV Students and Alumni must stop burying their head in the sand and become Politically active to place The Fear into any Politician not wiling to build this University into the Economic Engine it should become.

Build a Real Medical School in Las Vegas!

  5. This is more a reflection on Navy moving to the Big East than on us. I've got my tickets 4 to be exact and ready for the new year. Remember fellas school est. 1957 it takes time!
