A boat enters Boulder Harbor at Lake Mead last year. The Lake Mead National Recreation Area has seen a slight decrease in visitors this year compared to last year.

This weekend, go green with one of several Earth Day events across the Valley. Hop in your hybrid car and head to LBS: A Burger Joint to devour an Urth Burger to benefit Springs Preserve, clean up Lake Mead or take your recycling to Dig This Heavy Equipment Playground.

Saturday, April 21:

Keeping Lake Mead Clean: More than 450 area volunteers are expected to join nearly 600,000 globally as part of Kiwanis One Day, contributing nearly 1 million service hours around the world in 24 hours. The clean-up at Lake Mead includes collecting cans, glass, weeds, and other debris. It begins at 9 a.m. at Boulder Harbor at the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Entry fees to the recreation area are waived for the event. Closed-toe shoes and long pants are recommended, as well as sunscreen and a hat.

Earth Day spa activities The Spa at The Mirage invites guests to celebrate Earth Day weekend with Yoga Among the Dolphins, where participants can do yoga in the underwater viewing area at Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat. The class accommodates all skill levels. Classes are offered at 8:30 a.m Friday through Sunday. The cost is $30 and includes use of the spa facilities. Call 702-781-7416 to book a class. The spa will be offering a special Detoxifying Seaweed Body Wrap to improve skin tone, stimulate circulation and renew energy using seaweed, a naturally sustainable material. The cost is $160.

Sunday, April 22:

LBS Burger Joint at Red Rock Resort will urge diners to give back to the planet this Earth Day with the purchase of their Urth Burger. All proceeds from the burger on Earth Day will go to the Springs Preserve. The dish features a house-made vegan patty topped with fresh tomato, lettuce, cucumber, sprouts and avocado slices and is priced at $13. The sister restaurants of LBS Burger Joint will also be donating to the cause with the Urth Burger Earth Day offering. Guests can enjoy the burger at Holstein’s inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas and Pink’s Hot Dogs at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

Earth Day book signing: Author C.S. Goldsmith will be holding a book-signing at Barnes & Noble, 567 N. Stephanie St. in Henderson, on Earth Day. His book is titled "Uninhabitable: A Case for Caution" and discusses climate change and its effects on the planet.

Communitywide recycling event: On Earth Day, join Dig This Heavy Equipment Playground in partnership with Par 3 Recycling for a communitywide recycling event to benefit the Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada. Family activities will allow even the youngest of diggers a chance to touch a bulldozer and an excavator. All recyclables will be accepted and separation is not required.

Chipotle Earth Day Special: This Earth Day, Chipotle Mexican Grill will reward eco-friendly customers with a free burrito, bowl, salad or order of tacos if they purchase a Chipotle-branded repurposed billboard bag from Chipotle’s online store. Chipotle will donate all of the proceeds from the sale of the bags to the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation. In keeping with Chipotle’s commitment to finding more sustainable solutions, the lunch bags are made through a unique process called “upcyling” in which billboards from Chipotle’s outdoor advertisements are given a second life by transforming them into lunch bags.
