Snow fell Friday at the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort on Mount Charleston days after the resort closed for the season, April 13, 2012.

Snow is falling at Mount Charleston and rain is expected Friday evening in the Las Vegas Valley, a National Weather Service forecaster said.

A winter storm warning is in effect until 9 a.m. Saturday on the mountain above 5,000 feet in elevation, said Jim Harrison, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

The snowfall comes a week after the Las Vegas Ski & Snow Board Resort closed for the season. Ski resort representatives say there are no plans to reopen the resort this weekend.

Rain is forecast tonight and scattered showers are expected on Saturday, particularly in the west valley, Harrison said.

Friday’s high temperature was 67 degrees at McCarran International Airport and the low was 53, said Harrison, adding that winds blowing from the southwest reached gusts of 35 to 40 mph in some areas.

Temperatures are expected to cool Saturday with a forecasted high of 58 degrees and a low of 45, Harrison said. Winds are expected to die down Saturday to 10 to 15 mph.

Harrison said the precipitation wouldn’t last the entire weekend.

“So a sunny and warmer Sunday,” Harrison said. Light winds and a high around 70 degrees are forecast for Sunday.
