A member of the Granatelli Motor Sports family was seriously injured Thursday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, according to Metro Police.

J.R. Granatelli was unloading a vehicle from a trailer at 1:16 p.m. when it flipped over on him, police said.

Granatelli was transported to University Medical Center, police said. He is the founder of Granatelli Motor Sports.

A representative who answered the phone at Granatelli Motor Sports said no one from the company would be commenting today on the incident.

According to the company’s Facebook page, however, J.R. Granatelli was in critical condition but was expected to “be fine and back to work in no time.”

CORRECTION: It was originally reported that JoJo Granatelli, son of J.R. Granatelli, suffered the accident. | (April 13, 2012)
