Events guide: Easter and Passover 2012

Visitors to Town Square greet the Easter chick on Saturday morning. Town Square had games, booths and more than 35,000 eggs to be collected.

If your idea of Easter ham is Spam or you just don’t remember how your grandmother made her famous matzo ball soup, just give up and go out. Las Vegas restaurants are putting on quite the spread for both Easter and Passover meals this weekend. There are also many fun Easter family events, from egg hunts to photos with the Easter Bunny. Read on to plan your holiday weekend.

Local candy shops:

Ethel M is celebrating with festive egg-shaped boxes filled with a peanut butter or fruit truffle assortment.

Payard Patisserie celebrates the holiday with an assorted collection of Easter eggs and Easter bunnies. For the first time, the shop is making a line of eggs in cheetah and zebra print containing dark, milk and white chocolate.

Sugar Factory will have an assortment of holiday baskets, including the Little Peeps Box, Easter Sweet Treat Tower, the Hoppy Easter Gourmet basket and the Easter Bling Bucket. Prices range from $22.95 to $160 for Peter’s VIP basket, which includes marshmallow Peeps, a bunny vanilla sugar cookie, salt water taffy, an Easter character lollipop, peanut butter toffee popcorn, jumbo swirl lollipop, marshmallow kabobs, aquamarine Couture Pop, a milk chocolate bunny and more.

Sees’s Candies celebrates the holiday with the Bordeaux egg filled with brown sugar butter cream covered in milk chocolate and topped with chocolate sprinkles. It will also have the popular Orange Cream Lollypop and Bunny Family Easter Assortment featuring milk chocolate bunnies, Scotchmallow eggs, marshmallow eggs and jellybeans.

Easter at The District: Enjoy photos with the Easter Bunny, face painting, balloon art and music on Main Street in the District, across from the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt: First Henderson United Methodist Church hosts its Annual Easter Egg Hunt for ages up to 11. There will be a special toddler area for those under 4 years old. The courtyard will be transformed into an Easter EGGstravaganza, with more than 1,000 eggs ready for hunting.

Hop & Shop: Easter Egg Hunt and Family Festival: Families can visit Town Square for a free Hop & Shop Easter event with a variety of activities for children to enjoy. Free Easter egg hunts take place every half hour for children ages 1 to 10 years old from 10 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Town Square Park. Egg hunt registration begins at 9 a.m. and is required for participation. The Easter Bunny will be on hand for photos. Please have children bring their own baskets to carry their treats.

Easter Seals Walk With Me fundraiser: Easter Seals Nevada hosts the fourth annual Walk With Me event, a fun-filled, two-mile walk and Easter carnival for the whole family to benefit more than 6,000 Nevadans living with disabilities. This year’s event will also feature a special performance by School of Rock, the local chapter of the music school inspiring kids to rock on stage and in life. The event kicks off at 9 a.m. with speeches by Brian Patchett, president and CEO of Easter Seals Nevada, and families served by the organization. At 9:30 a.m., the walk begins and all participants will have the opportunity to meet and walk with Easter Seals’ 2012 Honorary Ambassadors – individuals who have directly benefited from the support received through Easter Seals’ programs. This year more than 500 people are expected to walk for disability awareness. At 10:15 a.m., for just $5, children can participate in Easter Seals Nevada’s Easter Carnival featuring an Easter egg hunt, photos with the Easter Bunny, activities for the family, food, music and more.

Palm Eastern Mortuary Sunrise Service: Palm Eastern Mortuary and Cemetery will host its annual Easter Sunrise Service in honor of Resurrection Day. On Sunday, Las Vegas residents and guests will be able to celebrate during the spiritually uplifting outdoor celebration to be held in the beautiful Palm Eastern Cemetery. Starting at 6:30 a.m., the family-friendly event will feature an inspirational message delivered by the Rev. Leo Wood, a dove release, live entertainment, a complimentary continental breakfast, as well as a special appearance from the Easter Bunny. Music will be provided by the Desert Chorale, a 45-voice, nonprofit, community chorus, musician Larry Walker and an array of local soloists, including Mary Kay Mendenhall, Casey Moore, Bill Walker and Genevieve Dew. The service will be inter-denominational.

Ethel M's Spring Spectacular Weekend: Ethel M Chocolates invites families to its chocolate factory and botanical cactus garden for the annual Spring Spectacular Weekend April 6-8. The three days of family-friendly festivities are free and open to the public. From 1-5 p.m. on Friday, April 6, enjoy photos with the Easter bunny, face painters and balloon artists. These activities will continue throughout the weekend. From noon until 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, Ethel M partners with local organization Opportunity Village, for a spring Art Walk. Guests are invited to stroll through the scenic three-acre botanical cactus garden and view original artwork created by individuals with disabilities at Opportunity Village. All pieces on display will be available for purchase with proceeds benefiting Opportunity Village. The party continues from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 8.

Egg Dive: Desert Breeze Water Park hosts its first Egg Dive. Children can also participate in crafts and games. Both weighted and floating eggs will fill the shallow pool and a special prize will be given based on who gets a special egg per age group. Everyone will receive a goody bag for participating and mesh bags for collecting eggs. For more information, call 702-455-7798.

EggStravaganza: Join the Easter Bunny and celebrate the arrival of spring as the Springs Preserve hosts the family-friendly EggStravaganza celebration including festive spring-inspired activities like an egg scavenger hunt (for children 6 and over), egg hunt (for children 5 and under), bunny petting pen, pictures with the Easter Bunny, face painting, arts and crafts, food, live entertainment and much more.

Easter Hop at the Valley of Fire State Park: The Easter Bunny will hop around to the following locations at various times: Atlatl rock campground, Arch Rock campground, group use area, Atlatl picnic area, Seven Sisters area, historic Conservation Corps cabins area and the visitor center. The park is located six miles from Lake Mead and 55 miles northeast of Las Vegas via Interstate 15 off of exit 75.

Spring Garden Party: Village Square hosts its first annual Spring Garden Party for the community. The celebration will include an Eggstravaganza Hunt, bunny farm, face painting, photos with the Easter Bunny, and a Basket Bonanza for children and adults to enjoy. The bunny petting zoo area will include a large spring garden party display featuring the Easter Bunny and fun photo cutouts. One complimentary photo will be provided to each family.

Bass Pro Shops: Photos with the Easter Bunny are available from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday or 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 2-6. An old-fashioned Easter egg hunt for kids 2-10 will be held from 1-2 p.m. on April 7 and 8.

Boulevard Mall: Photos with the Easter Bunny are available from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Galleria Mall: Photos with the Easter Bunny are available from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the lower level center court.

Meadows Mall: Photos with the Easter Bunny are available from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday near the lower level near Sear's Court.

Easter brunch options:

Ceres at the JW Marriott offers brunch seatings at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., priced at $54 for adults and $24 for children. Menu highlights include seasonal fruits, fresh seafood, meat carving stations and an array of desserts. There will also be egg huts during each seating and photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny. The Carmel Room inside Rampart Casino

The Carmel Room at Rampart offers a special three-course Easter dinner from 3-8 p.m. priced at $49.99 per person. The first course features a choice of soup or chilled citrus shrimp salad while the second course features an entrée choice of a petit filet mignon topped with lobster meat or wasabi crusted halibut. For dessert, enjoy strawberries Romanoff. For reservations, call 507-5955.

Carve at The Eastside Cannery offers a special Easter menu featuring a choice of wild mushroom cream soup or an iceberg wedge salad, a choice of prime rib, braised lamb shank or fresh halibut followed by a dessert of Georgia peach cobbler. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m. Call 856-5425 for reservations.

Snaps at The Eastside Cannery offers a special Easter menu featuring a choice of smoked bacon corn chowder or fresh spring salad, a choice of honey baked ham or leg of lamb as an entree and caramel peach a la mode for dessert. The special runs from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. and costs $14.95.

The Cannery Row Buffet at the Eastside Cannery hosts an Easter Brunch featuring breakfast specialties like cheese blintzes, chorizo and eggs, corned beef hash, lox and bagels, waffles and omelets plus carving stations for roast beef, turkey breast and honey baked ham. Breakfast is served from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and dinner runs from 3:30-8 p.m.

Waverly's at The Cannery Casino offers a special Easter entree- olive and garlic roasted lamb with truffle mashed potatoes and fresh broccoli. Call 507-5777 for reservations.

The Cannery Row Buffet hosts a Champagne Easter Brunch featuring omelets, turkey, ham, braised pork loin, seafood thermidor, salmon Milano and seafood pasta.

The Resort at Mt. Charleston hosts an Easter Brunch featuring ham, turkey, scalloped potatoes, French toast, waffle and omelet stations, chocolate fountain and strawberries and pound cake. The meal is priced at $25.95 for adults and $14.95 for children 12 and under.

The Rampart Buffet will offer a special Easter buffet menu April 8 from 9:30 a.m. until 9 p.m., priced at $18.99 or $16.99 with a Rampart Rewards card. Menu highlights include seafood on ice, Catalina pork loin, citrus herb Cornish game hens, tortellini with sundried tomato vodka sauce, lox scrambled eggs, corned beef hash, honey baked ham, brisket, and leg of lamb.

The Promenade Café at Rampart offers a three-course Easter menu from 11 a.m.- 9 p.m., priced at $13.99 per person. The menu begins with a selection of spinach salad or potato leek soup with ham, followed be entrée choices of ham, Cornish game hen or smoked salad with a lemon meringue tart.

Marche Bacchus French Bistro and Wine Market offers a four-course Easter Sunday brunch featuring a first course of chilled carrot ginger soup or warm spinach salad, a second course of jumbo lump crab cake or poached eggs and sausage, a third course of salmon, bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin or eggs Benedict with a dessert of a chocolate mousse trio. Enjoy a complimentary glass of champagne or a mimosa with your meal. Call 804-8008 for reservations.

Petra Taverna at Tivoli Village offers a brunch buffet from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Menu items include baklava waffles, the Greet Scramble and the Petra Benedict. The price of the buffet is $34.95 for adults and $12.95 for children. Bottomless mimosas will be available for an additional $50. Call 534-0200 for reservations.

The Feast and Festival Buffets at Station Casinos and Fiesta properties will celebrate Easter with turkey, prime rib and ham carving stations plus other holiday additions like salmon, lamb chops, mushroom and herb chicken, shrimp in lobster sauce, chicken and pork tamales and desserts like strawberry shortcake, bread pudding with fruits and nuts and specialty cheesecakes.

T Bones Chophouse at Red Rock offers an upscale brunch and dinner. Brunch is offered from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., priced at $65 for adults and $29 for children 8 and under. The brunch menu features peach bellinis with prosecco, chilled shrimp, snow crab claws, prime rib, pistachio crusted rack of lamb, ham, omelets, Jidori chicket Marsala and a dessert bar featuring strawberry rhubarb panna cotta, Nutella chocolate crunch pot de creme, white chocolate citrus mousse dome and Easter cupcakes. For dinner from 6-9 p.m., enjoy specialty a la carte dishes like a spring asparagus salad with truffle vinagrette and a poached duck egg, roasted lamb and a citrus puff pastry with honey cream for dessert. Terra Verde at Green Valley Ranch offers an all-you-can-eat brunch from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., priced at $36.95 per person, featuring whole poached salmon, an omlet station, lobster and crab salad, tagliatelle pasta with shrimp and lobster, breakfast calzones and a gorgonzola harvest salad.

Terra Rossa inside Red Rock

Terra Rossa at Red Rock offers a la carte specialties like lamb, pappardelle and torta de ricotta with honey and pistachio gelato for dessert. The specials will be available from noon until 9 p.m.

The Charcoal Room at Santa Fe Station offers a la carte choices with appetizers of watermelon salad with feta cheese, grilled American Kurobuta pork belly confit with orange marmalade, beef Wellington with mushrooms, wrapped in a puff pastry with truffle red wine sauce, Kurobuta pork tenderloin roulade and a dessert of dark chocolate sponge cake with crème of Amaretto a la mode. The specials run from 2-9 p.m.

The Broiler Steak & Seafood at Palace Station and at Boulder Station offer special a la carte choices including an appetizer of Maryland blue crab dip, Colorado lamb chops with mint infused demi glace, prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes and a dessert of crème brulee.

Austins Steakhouse at Texas Station offers a three-course meal for $48 consisting of tomato and roasted peppers soup with goat cheese crostini, entrée choices of pesto glazed salmon or New York strip steak duxelle and flourless chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The restaurant will open at 4 p.m.

Sonoma Cellar Steakhouse at Sunset Station offers a special meal with an appetizer of beet salad drizzled with avocado oil followed by roasted medallions of lamb with red wine demi glace over fingerling potatoes, for $54. The restaurant opens at 3 p.m.

MRKT at Aliante Station offers a full-course meal of a MRKT chopped salad for an appetizer, Cajun-style sea bass topped with shrimp and served with walnuts and asparagus, and chocolate decadence cake for dessert, for $56. The restaurant opens at 4 p.m.

Hank’s Fine Steaks at Green Valley Ranch offers a special a la carte menu with items such as a salad of fresh figs, Maytag blue cheese, bing cherries and candied pecans, tossed with Mache lettuce and an entrée of maple syrup and brown sugar brined pork chop with bacon and applewood house made sauerkraut. The restaurant opens at 5 p.m.

Hash House A Go-Go, fried chicken Benedict

The four local Hash House A Go Go restaurants offer a la carte Easter specials like the lamb chop hash, M&M flapjacks, roast chicken Benny, twisted ham chop and eggs and specialty cocktails like the blueberry lemonade margarita and the tangerine bellini. Tacos and Tequila celebrates with a festive mariachi brunch featuring items like huevos racheros, huevos con chorizo, chilaquiles and a chocolate bunny specialty cocktail for desert featuring Patron XO Cade Dark Chocolate, Stoli Vanilla, Crème de Cocoa Dark and Aztec chocolate bitters.

The Café at Eldorado Casino offers a la carte Easter specials from 11 a.m. until closing featuring baked ham with rum raisin sauce and roasted lamb with port red wine sauce.

The Firelight Buffet at Sam’s Town offers prime rib, leg of lamb, glazed ham, almost crusted pork chops, pasta seafood, chicken cordon blue and specialty desserts including a chocolate fountain, strawberry short cake and grasshopper pie. The buffet runs from 9 a.m-9 p.m. and is priced at $13.99 for B Connected members.

The Prime Rib Loft at Orleans offers a special Easter menu from 5-10 p.m. for $30 per person featuring a choice of corn, pepper and tomato chowder or an heirloom tomato and apple salad to start, followed by entrée choices of steak Diane and bacon-wrapped veal loin plus red velvet cake for dessert.

Canal Street at Orleans offers a special a la carte menu from 5-10 p.m. featuring a choice of roasted garlic soup or chilled broccoli and arugula salad to start, entrée choices of tournedos of beef or stuffed lemon sole plus a fresh fruit tart for dessert.

Sugar Factory American Brasserie offers holiday specialties like red velvet pancakes with cherry syrup, chocolate decadence French toast, Sugar Factory Eggs Benedict and smoked salmon croissants. At the door, count the number of jellybeans in the colorful display for a chance to win a special Easter basket.

Comme Ca at The Cosmopolitan offers up a special brunch from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., priced at $39 with an optional endless champagne, mimosa or bloody Mary component for an additional $20. The spread includes housemade charcuterie, deviled lobster eggs, quiche, potato salad, roasted leg of lamb, beer can chicken, hay smoked honey ham, grilled ruby trout and the famed duck confit cinnamon roll. For dessert, enjoy éclairs, pot de crème, lemon tarts, apple scones and chocolate croissants.

Mon Ami Gabi at Paris Las Vegas offers specialty a la carte brunch items from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. featuring a bloody Mary bar and mimosas plus items like strawberry waffles, French toast, eggs Benedict and corned beef hash and poached eggs. Call 944-4224 for reservations.

PBR Rock Bar & Grill celebrates Easter with $5 mimosas and sangrias if guests need to nurse their chocolate hangovers.

Flemings in Summerlin offers a three-course prix fixe menu from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m., priced at $34.95 for adults and $16.95 for children. Menu highlights include filet mignon Benedict, New Orleans-style French toast, shrimp or filet frittata and the steakhouse filet mignon cobb salad. Dessert options include crème brulee, white chocolate bread pudding or walnut turtle pie.

Simon at Palms Place offers brunch from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. plus two egg hunts at 9 a.m. and noon. The buffet brunch includes Simon’s bread pudding, brown sugar ham, leg of lamb, green bean casserole, potato gratin and warm hot cross buns. Brunch is priced at $49 for adults and $29 for children. For reservations, call 944-3292.

Passover events:

The Summerlin Community Church in conjunction with Friends of Israel offers a seder for the community. Elements of the meal will be explained as food is served to give a greater understanding of the Jewish holiday. The event is free but a freewill offering will be collected.

The Feast and Festival Buffets at Station Casinos and Fiesta properties will celebrate Passover with traditional Jewish foods in addition to their normal offerings. Enjoy brisket, charoset, matzah brei, potato latkes and beet horseradish. The special menu will be served all day on April 6 and 7.

The Rampart Buffet will offer a special Passover buffet menu April 6 and 7 from 4-9 p.m., priced at $18.99 or $16.99 with a Rampart Rewards card. The menu includes chopped chicken liver, whitefish salad, matzo ball soup, braised beef short ribs, potato knishes, lox, kasha varnishkas, brisket, turkey, prime rib, leg of lamb and baked salmon.

The Church of the Lord Jesus Christ on Bartlett Avenue will hold a Passover Seder at 6:30 p.m. April 6.
