Wranglers win first playoff game

Las Vegas center Eric Lampe scored two goals and goaltender Mitch O’Keefe stopped all 21 shots he faced as the Wranglers beat the Grizzlies 2-0 in Game 1 of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

After a scoreless first period, Lampe collected his first goal of the game at the 1:14 mark of the second period as he beat Utah goalie Andrew Engelage. Lampe was assisted by Adam Miller and Judd Blackwater on the goal.

Lampe scored his second goal of the evening early in the third period to add to the Wranglers' lead. Blackwater and Mike Madill were credited with assists on the insurance goal.

O’Keefe recorded 15 of his 21 saves in the second and third periods to help secure the shutout victory.

The Wranglers outshot the Grizzlies 28-21 in the postseason opener. Lampe and Blackwater led the way with seven shots apiece.

Both teams struggled on the power play, with the Wranglers going 0-4 and the Grizzlies going 0-5 on the man advantage.

Next up: The Wranglers return to the ice Tuesday evening at the Maverik Center for game two of the best-of-five series against the Grizzlies. Las Vegas returns home to the Orleans Arena to play game three on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. If necessary, games four and five will be Friday and Monday at 7:05 p.m. on their home ice.
