Letter to the editor:

School District protocol is absurd

Here’s another good reason the Clark County School District has a substitute shortage. Maybe Kim Palchikoff, who mentioned it Sept. 22, will feel better to know that even as a retiring employee with the ink barely dry on your retirement papers you must, if you want to substitute:

• obtain a new license that specifically says “substitute” ($100);

• provide a new resume and references;

• get re-fingerprinted and a new TB test ($27);

• pay the district $60 to run a background check!

If any of us were stupid enough to commit a felony while in the employ of the district, surely it would have been headline news. Streamline the process, CCSD. Transfer our personnel files, read our annual evaluations and stop the brain drain!
