Henderson Police shot and wounded a man Monday morning accused of robbing a pharmacy on Horizon Ridge Parkway and firing a shotgun at officers, officials said.

The incident began at 11:35 a.m. when 60-year-old Anthony Rogers allegedly robbed the NDC Pharmacy, 3041 W. Horizon Ridge Parkway, police said.

Officers in a patrol car spotted Rogers' white passenger car turning north onto Green Valley Parkway at 11:45 a.m., where he encountered another officer on a motorcycle, police spokesman Keith Paul said. Officers turned on their emergency lights in an attempt to pull Rogers over, but he failed to comply, police said.

Rogers, of Henderson, allegedly aimed the shotgun out his car window and fired toward the officer, striking the motorcycle, Paul said. The officer suffered a "very minor" injury, police said.

The shot was fired on Green Valley Parkway between Wingbrook Avenue and Benji Drive.

The suspect continued north on Green Valley Parkway and pulled into a traffic circle on Village Walk Drive in the eastern part of the District at Green Valley Ranch shopping center, Paul said.

"He stepped out of his car and fired one or two shotgun blasts at the officers," Paul said in a statement. "The five arriving officers were left with no other option but to return fire."

The man was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center’s trauma unit, Paul said. On Tuesday, Rogers was proxy booked at the hospital on five counts of attempted murder and one count of robbery with a deadly weapon.

Rogers is also accused of using the shotgun to rob the pharmacy of pain medications, including Percocet and Oxycodone.

The five officers who were involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative leave during the investigation, which is standard procedure, Paul said. Their names will be released 48 hours after the shooting.

No one else was injured during the pharmacy robbery or shooting incident. Detectives were interviewing several witnesses to the shooting.

Portions of Green Valley Parkway, Paseo Verde Parkway and Village Walk Drive were closed to traffic.
