The Valley High football team built a 16-point lead Friday against host Eldorado, but had to hang on for a 16-13 victory.
Kennedy Williams returned the opening kickoff of the second half 90 yards for a touchdown to spark Valley (2-2, 2-0 Northeast) to its second straight win. Last week, they beat Rancho in five overtimes.
“It was tough. We were flat going into this game,” Valley coach Marcus Sherman said of recovering from the marathon against Rancho. “I was definitely worried about how we would respond heading into the game.”
Quarterback Anthony Sanders and Tyrone Prewitt hooked up for a 16-yard scoring strike for the Vikings’ other touchdown. They also connected on a pair of 2-point conversions — which, ultimately, was the difference.
“We just hung on. Eldorado was coming. They just kept battling,” Sherman said.
