After losing in five overtimes last week against Valley, the Rancho High football team rebounded Friday with a 66-20 victory against Sunrise Mountain for its first win of the season.
“I didn’t expect our first win to be (this late in the season),” Rancho coach Elvin Dick said. “But we have been struggling with some injuries this year. It is definitely nice to get into the win column.”
Unofficially, running back Cody Hafen and quarterback William Gosse-Gardet each had two touchdowns, Dick said. Also, Bryson Mitchell had more than 100 receiving yards.
Rancho (1-3) had been plagued by mistakes in losing its initial three games of the season. Dick estimates they had a combined 15 turnovers in the defeats.
“We just haven’t been executing very well,” the coach said.
