UNLV football needs an overhaul

It is time for a reality check at UNLV concerning the football program. UNLV is a basketball school and always will be. It is time for UNLV to get out of the football program as it exists today.

There are several options available, none of which the powers that be at UNLV would consider.

First, drop football and take the money spent and help all the other sports programs become better and even more competitive.

A second option is to drop out of the Mountain West Conference in football only and become an independent program. Other schools do this. Then UNLV could schedule schools that have programs with equal talent and give UNLV a chance to have a competitive program. Why ruin a good coach’s reputation with continued losing seasons?

You can bet that the athletic director and university president are not going to do a thing to help the university’s football program except the usual lip service.

If this were the basketball program, they would do anything to correct the problem and do it now.
