Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer look ahead to another week of high school football and detail why the Northwest division appears to be the strongest in town. Palo Verde, Arbor View, Centennial, Cimarron and Cheyenne have all looked impressive in the early season.

Jacob Pope's interception with two minutes to play Friday sealed a 31-27 victory for host Bonanza against Sierra Vista.

Bonanza’s Jayveon Taylor scored the winning touchdown on a short run with about four minutes remaining.

“We didn’t play very well,” Bonanza coach Shawn Dupris said. “Sierra Vista came to play and they gave us problems.”

Bonanza was led by quarterback Brett Doyle’s two touchdown runs. Doyle also threw a 44-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Ozosky.

With the win, Bonanza’s record improves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Southwest Division. While the victory wasn’t pretty, it sure beats the alternative.

“A victory is a victory, I guess,” Dupris said. “We weren’t ready from the start and in the second half they stuffed us on offense.”
