The Desert Pines High football team rushed for more than 300 yards in the first half Thursday in a 48-8 victory against host Chaparral.
Eric Wilkes’ 95-yard touchdown run toward the end of the first half was the big blow for Desert Pines, which secured the No. 3 playoff seed from the Northeast.
“Our defense came ready to play tonight. They were definitely ready,” Desert Pines coach Paul Bennett said.
Desert Pines and Valley each finished with 4-3 records in the Northeast, but Desert Pines gets the higher seed because it beat Valley early in the month.
Bennett estimates Wilkes rushed for 180 yards and Leon Hayes had 160 yards.
