CARSON CITY — Robert L. Schouweiler, a former assemblyman and district judge from Reno, has died after a short illness in La Costa, Calif.

He was 84.

He served two terms in the Assembly, taking part in the 1967 and 1969 regular sessions and a special session in 1968 representing Reno, North Lake Tahoe and Storey County.

Schouweiler was in private law practice with his brother Bart before being appointed district judge in Washoe County in 1981. He served until 1991.

He graduated from the law school at the University of San Francisco and served in the Marines during the Korean War.

Survivors include his brothers, Bart and Lloyd; two sons, John and Paul; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Reno on Nov. 19. The family asks contributions be made to a charity in lieu of flowers.
