Have they no decency? Part of Frankie’s sign stolen

Frankie's Tiki Room

Part of the famous sign at Frankie’s Tiki Room was stolen recently - and owner P Moss thinks he knows who did it.

If you’ve logged onto Facebook this past week, you’ve probably already heard: Frankie’s Tiki Room’s neon sign was stolen. The part that says, “TIKI ROOM,” at least. It happened about two weeks ago, but owner P Moss says he waited to go public with the news. "We were "hoping the idiot who took it was going to show it off or talk about it. I mean, if you steal a Picasso, you’re going to want to show it to somebody or you’ll just burst.”

It's a bizarre crime, to be sure, but Moss says he's fairly confident he knows who did it. "This guy was telling our staff how much he liked the sign and saying he wanted one just like it, and then he went outside and examined it. Two days later, the sign was gone. And now, I’m just hoping that somebody will figure all that out and let the world know who this guy is.”

And Moss says the theft has actually had a positive effect. “I’m getting Facebook comments from around the world. People really care about Frankie’s. I’m touched by the outpouring."

Replacing the sign won't be cheap, though -- at least a few thousand, according to Moss, who adds, "Everything about Frankie’s is a work of art."
