Should Arbor View have accepted game with Gorman?

Las Vegas Sun sports reporters Ray Brewer and Case Keefer are back with their weekly high school football podcast. This week's episode plays more like a variety show, as the two touch on a number of issues related to last week's gridiron action.

With no freshmen or junior varsity game this week, Desert Oasis coach Scott Staudinger decided to travel to Pahrump Valley with 76 players Friday night.

All 76 of them got into the game. It was that kind of night for Desert Oasis as it pummeled Pahrump Valley, 51-14.

“We wanted to give the kids who practiced all week a chance to get into the game,” Staudinger said.

The Diamondbacks starters made sure of it. They gave a focused effort to help Desert Oasis built an insurmountable lead early.

Junior running back Devin Fortenberry ran two touchdowns, while junior quarterback Herman Smith tossed two scores of his own.

Another highlight came when one of the area’s best defensive players, Kyle Henry, blocked a punt and Blake Kutz recovered it to set up another touchdown.

Mark Fredericks and Deumaine Reeder were among the players who punched in scores later in the game.

“We really played well all game,” Staudinger said. “The offensive line and defensive line especially kept at it.”
