Lee Griggs rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns on seven carries Friday to lead the Palo Verde football team to the Northwest Division title with a 49-0 victory against visiting Faith Lutheran.
Palo Verde (8-0), which is one of two undefeated teams in Southern Nevada, won the Northwest for the fourth time in five seasons. They had a bye last week, but didn’t show much signs of rust in leading 35-0 at halftime.
“It was hard coming off a bye week,” Palo Verde coach Darwin Rost said. “The kids were a little sluggish at first, but executed and did what they had to do.”
Palo Verde closes the regular season next week against Legacy, and will host Durango in the quarterfinals of the Sunset Regional playoffs.
Griggs also had a 32-yard interception return for a touchdown, while fullback Jacob Witham had a 41-yard touchdown run and Ryan Beaulieu scored on a 77-yard run. Defensively, Rost said his team limited Faith Lutheran to nine rushing yards.
