Letter to the editor:

Solar projects not showing value

Of many instances of government abuse, among the most recent is the current solar energy debacle: the squandering of billions of our tax dollars for solar energy projects yet to prove their effectiveness and true worth.

Maybe cost isn’t even considered by the government when mindlessly doling out the billions of dollars. I can only conclude there are some underlying motives driving these irrational government loan guarantees.

To date, the upstart solar energy companies have been fruitless, at least to taxpayers, as evidenced in the bankruptcy of Solyndra. That should be the tip of something fishy.

Can Sen. Harry Reid and President Barack Obama see that this is no more than the squandering of billions of taxpayer dollars? I realize that Sen. Reid will tout these government handouts as ways to bring revenue and jobs to Nevada. My question is: At what cost?

Also, why can’t the federal government tighten its belt like the rest of us, as the president has suggested many times over?
