Median work on Cheyenne Avenue will bring lane closures

Median project

Medians on Cheyenne Avenue in Las Vegas will be getting an upgrade, but the work will require some lane closures for the next two weeks beginning Monday.

The inside lanes of both directions of Cheyenne will be closed between Rampart Boulevard and Hualapai Way from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, except for Oct. 23.

Crews will be installing decorative rock and boulders, and metal sculptures of desert plants in the medians.

The work is the completion of a project that began last spring and included a roadway overlay and general road improvements.

The landscaping provides an aesthetic improvement to the road, but has low construction and maintenance costs and doesn’t require irrigation, the city said.

The work is being performed by city crews using sculptures created by a private vendor and city employees. This phase of the project will cost $80,000, city officials said.
