Letter to the editor:

We’re not meant to be led by polls

Vernos Branco’s Tuesday letter to the Sun, “Politicians aren’t listening to polls,” raises some interesting points suggesting perhaps we should govern by polling rather than by legislators who don’t seem to listen to the people anyway.

Since the people and President Barack Obama seem to favor raising taxes, let’s use a 5.6 percent surtax and eliminate the Bush tax cuts, raising taxes on the rich even more. Since we need the money so badly why wait for 2013?

Let’s raise these taxes starting Jan. 1, unless, of course, politicians are afraid of a voter backlash in November.

Also since Obamas’ approval rating is down to 40 percent, let’s dump him right now. Then, as one liberal suggested, we wouldn’t need elections next year. Think of all the money that would save. Yes, yes, I can see it now, government by polling. I can’t wait.
