THE STRIP:

New restaurants popping up on South Strip

The South Strip is getting a culinary makeover.

MGM Resorts International is investing $12 million to update two of its older properties: Excalibur and the Luxor. Several new restaurants will be added to each resort in the coming months.

Rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd will open a band-themed eatery at Excalibur in December, with a barbecue menu and music and entertainment after hours.

Next door, hospitality development company Drive This! Entertainment will debut a burger joint to replace the shuttered Sherwood Forest Cafe. The centerpiece of American Burger Works (ABX) will be a french fry bar that features Belgium pomme frites with different sauces, from cheddar cheese to pomegranate teriyaki. DJs will spin ’70s rock, and the venue will be decked out to resemble an East Village warehouse.

Buca di Beppo also will open its first Strip location at Excalibur. The Italian chain takes over for Regale Ristorante, which also was an Italian eatery. Buca di Beppo has two other locations in Las Vegas, one at Flamingo and Paradise roads, and one in Summerlin.

Down the Strip, the Luxor is getting a new food court. The existing food court is 18 years old and ready for an upgrade. A Starbucks and Nathan’s will be renovated and an Original Chicken Tender will be added. Construction is expected to be completed March 1.

Public House, a sports pub with several locations on the East Coast, also will land in the Luxor.
