Senior quarterback Eddie Vega led Basic to a 20-7 win over rival Boulder City on Friday night.
Vega threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another as the Wolves won the annual Jug Game without much of a problem. They never trailed and didn’t allow the Eagles to the score until the fourth quarter.
Darien Spencer and DeVonte Boyd each caught a touchdown pass for Basic.
“We made a lot of mistakes last week against Liberty and we made some tonight, too,” Basic coach Jeff Cahill said. “We’ve got to fix them and get them out of the way before next week.”
Basic hosts rival Foothill next week in a game with major playoff implications. The winner all but clinches a spot in the postseason.
Boulder City will have to upset Moapa Valley in two weeks to make the playoffs in the 3A. The Eagles may have a shot if they can work off of the success they found on the ground against the Wolves.
Boulder City rushed for more than 200 yards in the game. Xavier Steel led the team with 62 yards, while JD Owens had 61 and Tyler Washburn added 54.
“We played really hard,” Boulder City coach Alex Kazel said. “They have played really physical the last two weeks. They just made a couple more plays than we did.”
