Parking in downtown Las Vegas just got a little bit cheaper, at least at one garage.
The city announced Wednesday it is significantly lowering parking rates at the Neonopolis parking garage, which it owns.
It is now free to use the garage for the first hour, and after that motorists will be charged $1 per hour, with a daily maximum of $5. Monthly parking at the garage will be $35.
The old rate at the garage was $1.50 per hour, with a daily maximum of $36.
The garage on Fourth Street is between the Fremont Street Experience and the Fremont East Entertainment District.
City officials said in a statement they don't expect “substantial revenue losses” from the change. Instead, they hope more people will utilize the garage, which hasn't seen much traffic in the past.
A few new businesses are opening in the Neonopolis and the Fremont East district has become more popular.
The city recently hired a new parking services manager, Brandy Stanley, and said it would try to make parking more convenient downtown.

Paying to park, what a joke. What money that people make are they allowed to keep? As of now, most people work just to pay bills, fees, and taxes. What a glorious life that must be. How people do this rinse & repeat lifestyle everyday without going insane is beyond me.
We live in a completely empty state, but let's shove everything right next to each other... Smart.
So then let me ask you this there snerfattack how do you do this lifestyle everyday? If you feel that strong there are other places to live. Go there & see how much better it is.
Nice to see a drop! I usually use the Red Garage behind Hennessey's or park on the side streets next to El Cortez if I'm hanging out east of the Fremont Street experience. Will have to check it out next time.
@SerfAttack, you need to get a grip and chill out! Take some valium next time. I don't see how this article ended up being a tirade with you. I guess the glass is always half empty for people like you.
