Letter to the editor:

Candidates foolish to sign pledges

There is something really wrong with our political system when a politician is held hostage by signing a pledge to “not raise taxes.” What really concerns me, and should concern every voter, is the basic question: Who is the candidate responsible to? When someone gives his or her pledge to either do or not do anything that is really wrong. The word pledge as defined by the dictionary is an oath.

I hope that all voters demand that no politician allow themselves the luxury and expediency of pledging to anyone to get their support.

I for one will never vote for any candidate from any party who signs a pledge. The only oath I demand and accept is to “Protect and Defend the Constitution of the United States.”
