Letter to the editor:

Encounter showed Jobs to be class act

Remembering Steve Jobs:

In 2001, my then 11-year-old son and I received free tickets to a screening of Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.” We showed up to a packed theater and just as the lights went down on the test audience, I turned to see Steve Jobs sit down. After the movie, we made a beeline to meet him, but he graciously referred us to the director. “You don’t understand, Mr. Jobs,” I said, “our last name is Wozniak.”

At that, his eyes widened, and he laughed with my son, who knew well the story of Steve Wozniak (no relation) being Apple’s co-founder. “I’ll tell the Woz there’s another branch of the family in Nevada,” Jobs joked, and gladly signed an autograph for my beaming son and shook my hand. I’ll never forget how his demeanor changed — a regular guy for a few moments. The world will miss his genius.
