Soggy weather returns, expected to linger

For the second day in a row, rain clouds have blanketed the Las Vegas Valley and unleashed sporadic downpours.

Maybe it’s the official goodbye to summer weather. For the second day in a row, rain clouds have blanketed the Las Vegas Valley and unleashed sporadic downpours.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for central Clark County that expired at 2 p.m. today.

Meteorologists said the area near Sam Boyd Stadium and a portion of Henderson experienced heavy rainfall about noon. The storm moved north at 10 mph through the eastern valley, U.S. 93 and Boulder Highway.

McCarran International, North Las Vegas and Henderson Executive airports reported mostly cloudy conditions. No rain was reported today at McCarran, which is the city's official rain gauge.

A half-inch of rain fell in 15 minutes near Nellis Boulevard and Vegas Valley Drive, according to the weather service. Pea-size hail was reported nearby about noon, forecasters said.

The scattered storms are the result of a low-pressure system moving through Southern California, forecasters said. The soggy weather is expected to end tonight as the storm moves east across Arizona.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 73 degrees in Las Vegas, forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 86 degrees and the record high was 100 degrees, set in 1947.

Wednesday's morning low will be 60 degrees and Wednesday's high will climb to 73 degrees, they said.
