Letter to the editor:

Cops should treat OWS protesters better

I am a staunch supporter of police throughout the United States. They, like our military forces, are overworked and underpaid. I would like to ask this question through this letter: Do you believe you are part of the 99 percent that the Occupy Wall Streeters are protesting for?

I believe you are a part along with any other servant of a government that is bought by corporate lobbyists. Can’t you see how these wealthy corporations are trying to stop your bargaining and voting rights through the election of their paid-for candidates?

I realize as an officer of the law you must do your job and protect our society from riots, etc., but you should also realize the majority of these protesters are protesting partly on your behalf and for the overwhelming majority of Americans.

There is no reason to drag a protester across the concrete by the hair or backpack, use tear gas, club them or pepper-spray them. Is there any officer who has said to one of these lowdown protesters, “I realize you are protesting on my behalf but I have a job to do so try to cooperate with me?” Who knows, it may help make your job a little easier.

We realize officers take orders from their superiors who are controlled by the ruling 1 percent, but wake up and stop being macho. Do your job but realize what this movement is trying to protect.
