Warming up into the 70s for Las Vegas

Put away those sweaters — Las Vegas is going to bask in some 70-degree weather for the next couple of days, says Kevin Janison, KSNV-TV meteorologist.

“After two weeks with temps below normal, the streak was busted Tuesday when we reached a high of 70 degrees,” Janison said.

“That was so much fun, we’re going to do it again Wednesday,” he said. “In fact, another 70-degree day is expected Thursday.”

However, morning lows should remain in the mid-40s, he said.

“The pattern is set for an abrupt change on Friday. A strong cold front will kick winds into the gusty category, possibly over 40 mph,” he said. “Behind the front, weekend highs won’t get out of the 50s. Moral of the story: Enjoy the next couple of days.”

This morning’s low at McCarran International Airport was expected to be 46 degrees, which is the normal low for today's date, according to the National Weather Service. The record low was 24 degrees, set in 1938.

Temperatures at McCarran were to rise today to 56 degrees by 9 a.m., to 65 degrees by noon and reach a high of 69 degrees by 2 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 66 degrees and the record high was 78 degrees, set in 1977, 1949 and 1940.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 63 degrees by 6 p.m., to 55 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 49 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.

Thursday's morning low will be 45 degrees and Thursday's high will climb to 69 degrees, they said.
