2 arrested in death of man found in box on Fremont Street

Two 20-year-olds have been arrested in California and charged in connection with the slaying of a man whose body was found Nov. 9 in a box on Fremont Street.

Anthony Stiger and Melanie Costantini, both 20, of Las Vegas, were arrested Nov. 14, on suspicion of murder Metro Police said. The couple is believed to be married and have a 2-year-old child.

The suspects have been charged with felony counts of conspiracy to commit murder and murder with a deadly weapon, according to the Clark County District Attorney’s Office.

Officers responded to an apartment complex in Newport Apartments at 2540 East Fremont Street the night of Nov. 9 to investigate reports of a dead person, police said.

Police found a body wrapped in sheets inside a U-Haul box at the base of a set of stairs leading to the parking lot of the complex, police said. A U-Haul truck was parked nearby with its motor and headlights on.

The Clark County coroner’s office identified the victim as Harold Shilberg, 58, of Las Vegas, police said. Apartment residents told police Shilberg was the owner of the complex.

According to police, the victim appeared to have sustained injuries caused by an edged weapon.

Stiger and Costantini, were arrested in the Los Angeles area by members of the FBI and Los Angeles Police Department, officials said. Both suspects remain in the custody of California authorities.
