Metro Police arrested a California fugitive, Emmanuel Lopez, who was wanted in connection with the killing of a rival gang member in Los Angeles.

A California fugitive accused of killing a rival gang member has been apprehended in Las Vegas, authorities said.

The Metro Police Violent Crimes Task Force arrested Emmanuel Lopez, 26, Friday as he was leaving a residence near Charleston and Lamb boulevards, officials said.

Los Angeles police notified Metro that Lopez, accused of beating and executing a rival gang member by shooting him in the head, was possibly in Las Vegas, authorities said. Detectives believed he fled southern California and was staying with family and friends.

The task force, which includes detectives from Metro, Henderson and the FBI, narrowed the search for Lopez and set up a surveillance near the house, police said.

Authorities arrested Lopez on a fugitive murder warrant and booked him into the Clark County Detention Center, officials said. He is awaiting extradition to California.
