Letter to the editor:

National sales tax is fair to everyone

Our federal income taxes should be abolished. Taxes on income and wages should be replaced by a national sales tax. The sales tax rate would be determined each year by the nation’s budget, and any goods purchased would be taxed at that rate.

Of course, any person living under the poverty line would be credited by the Treasury Department so they would not have to pay sales tax.

With the Treasury Department handling all sales tax business, the Internal Revenue Service would be eliminated along with its employees, retirements and benefits, which would save the American taxpayers a tremendous amount of money.

Anybody going overseas to buy yachts, autos or anything else would pay the tax when they bring their purchases back.

Also, paybacks and pork-barrel giveaways to special-interest groups would be eliminated, which would save the taxpayers a lot more money.

America needs this sales tax. It would be a fair tax for all.
