Coroner IDs man gunned down at park on Halloween

A man killed in a shooting Halloween night that also injured a 14-year-old girl has been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Josue Espinoza, 21, of North Las Vegas, died from a gunshot wound to the torso, the coroner said.

Espinoza and the girl were sitting on a park bench when the double shooting occurred.

Officers responded to the 200 block of East Alexander Road about 8:45 p.m. Monday to investigate reports of possible gunfire, police said. They discovered the pair suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds at a park behind a nearby school, police said.

Espinoza was pronounced dead at the scene. The girl was transported to University Medical Center, where she was listed in critical but stable condition.

Investigators said the victims were seated on the bench when five males approached them. Police said they believe one of the men shot both victims with a handgun a short time later, and the group fled the scene.
