Nevada Wonk

Bill Clinton endorses Chris Giunchigliani for Las Vegas mayor

Former President Bill Clinton is stumping for Las Vegas mayoral candidate Chris Giunchigliani, but mispronounces her name twice in the process.

Clinton voiced a robocall that began circulating Las Vegas households today. Instead of calling her "June-kill-ee-A-ni," the proper pronunciation, he calls her "June-kill-ee-OH-ni."

"I've known Chris for many years, and I can tell you with no hesitation she'll take Las Vegas in a positive direction that will bring jobs and revitalize the city neighborhood by neighborhood," Clinton says in the taped recording. "Chris Giunchigliani is an experienced leader. She'll spark the next exciting era for Las Vegas."

"It's a tough name to spell," Clinton adds. "But you can just look for the longest name on the ballot and cast your vote for Chris. It's a vote for your future."

The endorsement isn't surprising considering Giunchigliani, a Clark County Commissioner, is a long-time Clinton supporter. She endorsed Hillary Clinton for president in 2008 and served as co-chair of her Nevada campaign.

Carolyn Goodman also picked up an endorsement today, from Las Vegas City Councilman Stavros Anthony.
