Metro Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident Wednesday afternoon that left a 72-year-old pedestrian dead in the western valley.
Police responded at 3:49 p.m. to the accident in the 1600 block of S. Rainbow Boulevard, south of Del Rey Avenue.
Witnesses told police that a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck was exiting a parking lot at 1555 S. Rainbow, heading south, as the woman was walking north on the sidewalk.
As the truck pulled onto the roadway, the woman stepped in front of the truck and was struck, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The incident remains under investigating by Metro’s Accident Investigations section. It was the 29th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
