Human remains found in desert southwest of Las Vegas

Metro Police detectives are investigating a human skull and bones found in a desert wash southwest of Las Vegas on Friday afternoon.

Surveyors found the bones about 2.5 miles northwest of the Gold Strike Hotel and Casino in Jean, about 500 yards off the road to Goodsprings, Metro Lt. Dan McGrath said. Police were called at 4:37 p.m. about the discovery, he said.

A preliminary investigation determined the bones have “been out there for a period of time” and were “exposed to the elements,” McGrath said.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will work to identify the remains and determine a cause of death, he said.
