Las Vegas DMV worker accused of selling licenses to immigrants

An employee of the state Department of Motor Vehicles has been arrested on charges of selling more than 200 drivers' licenses to immigrants for as much as $3,000 each.

The department said state and federal investigators booked Nancy P. Brown into the Henderson jail on federal charges of fraud and theft or bribery. Brown, 28, has worked for the department as a technician since 2007.

Federal and state enforcement officials said Brown worked with a series of middle men outside the agency to recruit immigrants and accepted payments ranging from $1,500 to $3,000 for each license.

DMV Director Bruce Breslow said, “We constantly monitor departmental transactions,” and Brown will be fully prosecuted. She was arrested Thursday at Caesars Palace.

The department said the investigation is continuing and there is no indication how long the alleged sale of licenses has been going on. The fraudulent drivers' licenses are being canceled. The DMV is sending certified letters to the license holders and is alerting other licensing agencies through the national Problem Driver Pointer System.
