A 19-year-old man was shot at least once Monday near a convenience store at Carey Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard in North Las Vegas.
Police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said officers responded at 4:30 p.m. after the man was found north of the Carey Mini Market in the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard.
Coon said the man was on a sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was taken to University Medical Center with critical injuries, police said.
Police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Coon said it wasn't clear whether the man was shot by someone in a passing car or possibly by a pedestrian.
She said police had leads on possible suspects, but authorities weren't releasing other details.
Northbound and southbound lanes of Martin Luther King Boulevard were shut down at Carey during the investigation.
