A 22-year-old motorcyclist who died after colliding with a truck Wednesday evening has been identified as Las Vegas resident Alex Lee Memar, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

He was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle north on Valley View Boulevard about 6:15 p.m. while a Ford F-150 was traveling westbound on El Camino Avenue from a stop sign, Metro Sgt. Richard Strader said.

As the truck continued west, the motorcycle fell to its side and struck the rear tow hitch of the Ford, police said. Police had earlier reported that witnesses saw Memar accelerate on his motorcycle at a high rate of speed prior to the collision.

Memar was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Strader said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. This is the 13th fatal traffic accident for Metro in 2011.
