The weather service has issued a high wind warning from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for the Las Vegas area, including the Las Vegas Valley, Red Rock Canyon and the Spring Mountains.

A storm system will bring the strong winds to the Mojave Desert and Sierra Nevada Mountain range today, along with valley rain and mountain snow in the southern Great Basin today and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

From Friday through Monday, the weather pattern will bring periods of gusty winds and chances for mountain snow and valley rain Friday through Monday, the weather service said.

Winds will be from the southwest, with gusts over 60 mph in the mountains and on the west side of the Las Vegas Valley, the weather service said.

The central and eastern parts of the valley will see strong winds this afternoon and evening, forecasters said.

Strong winds will occasionally create difficult driving conditions in Red Rock Canyon and on the west side of Las Vegas, including the 215 Beltway and nearby roads, they said.

Loose objects, such as lawn furniture might be blown around and minor roof damage could occur, they said.
