Flood project to close part of Elkhorn Road for six weeks

Road closed

Motorists who use Elkhorn Road in the northwest valley may need to find an alternate route for the next six weeks.

City officials said the road would close Monday from Decatur Boulevard west to Bradley Road for work on a flood control project.

During the closure, residents of the area will be able to use Elkhorn to access their homes, but the road will be closed to through traffic. Motorists are encouraged to use Deer Springs Way or Farm Road as alternatives for east-west travel.

The closure is part of a flood control project that runs along Decatur Boulevard between the Las Vegas Beltway and Elkhorn Road and on Elkhorn from Decatur to Torrey Pines Drive.

During this phase, crews will be installing flood control boxes under the roadway.

The $30 million project began in December and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2012.

The project is being funded by the city, the Clark County Regional Flood Control District and the Regional Transportation Commission.

Another flood control project in the area has also been causing traffic delays as crews work on Racel Street from El Capitan Way to Cimarron Road and on El Capitan Way from Racel Street to Horse Drive.
