Another warm afternoon ahead for Las Vegas

Temperatures climbing near the 80-degree mark, forecasters said

Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s again today in the Las Vegas area, according to the National Weather Service.

Along with continued warm weather running nearly 10 degrees above normal, scattered clouds are expected through this evening, the weather service said.

The quiet weather will continue through Tuesday, then a big change is in store beginning Wednesday, forecasters said.

A series of storms will bring periods of gusty winds, a chance for mountain snow and valley rain and cooler temperatures Wednesday through the weekend, they said.

At 4:56 a.m. today, the temperature at McCarran International Airport was 58 degrees. The normal low for today's date was 47 degrees. The record low was 27 degrees, set in 1962.

Around the valley just before 5 a.m., temperatures were 54 degrees at North Las Vegas Airport, 53 degrees at Nellis Air Force Base and 55 degrees at Henderson Executive Airport.

Temperatures in the valley were to rise today to 63 degrees by 9 a.m., to 73 degrees by noon and reach a high of 79 degrees by 4 p.m., forecasters said. The normal high for today's date is 69 degrees and the record high was 89 degrees, set in 2007.

Temperatures are expected to drop to 77 degrees by 6 p.m., to 69 degrees by 9 p.m. and to 63 degrees by midnight, forecasters said.
