LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Ensign not worthy of representing state in any office

Sen. John Ensign says he has decided to not seek re-election in 2012 because of the stress it would put on his family. I feel for his family but I can’t help but be disgusted by the sheer gall of this man.

He has to be among Nevada’s most arrogant people, and America should consider itself lucky that Ensign’s true colors have been exposed before he could go on to do more damage to our great nation. This is a man who, after shaming himself, his family and Nevada in such an amazingly public way, wants us to believe he is brimming with integrity.

We all make mistakes, and I could easily feel compassion for Ensign if he had taken this opportunity to be a positive example by admitting he is human, made numerous mistakes in his attempts to cover up his betrayal and showing us that he takes seriously this opportunity to reflect on where he went wrong.

I wasn’t as upset with his infidelity, which is an issue between him and his wife, as much as I was upset that he put so much energy into promoting the sanctity of marriage while he was committing adultery.

That he has instead chosen to arrogantly go forward insisting that we believe he is above his transgressions makes it clear that he does not deserve to represent the people of Nevada in any office.
