Law Enforcement:

Child safe after being in stolen car

Vicinity of car theft

A two-year-old child has been reunited with his family after being taken for a ride by a car thief.

Metro Police said the boy was still in his car seat in the back of a car when the car was stolen shortly after noon Saturday at the Pecos Villas Apartments near the intersection of Pecos and Desert Inn roads.

The child’s mother was busy taking another child out of the car when the thief jumped in the vehicle and drove off, police Lt. Dan Zehnder said.

The thief apparently dropped off the child at a motel on Boulder Highway a short time later, Zehnder said.

Police are still looking for the thief and the vehicle, but the child was unharmed and was reunited with his mother.
