A Nevada Highway Patrol motorcycle officer was injured in an accident this morning on southbound U.S. 95 at the Rancho Drive interchange in the northwest valley.
The officer was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, Highway Patrol Trooper Joseph Fackrell said. The crash occurred at 7:49 a.m.
Fackrell said no other details were available on his injuries or possible injuries to other motorists.
U.S. 95 southbound was initially closed at the Rancho Drive exit. One lane reopened at about 9 a.m., Fackrell said.
Authorities weren't releasing the trooper's name this morning.

I observed them elsewhere in the valley quickly changing lanes without signaling in heavy traffic.
We should get rid of these cops on cycles. Too risky and costly for the taxpayers. So they get to an accident faster, what are they going to do, strap an injured person to the back of the cycle and take them to the hospital??
Mred-First of all your observation is not very credible. Every city in the country has cops on cycles. How many accidents have their been with NHP and Mtro officers on bikes compared to to average citizens.
I can only assume that you are just anti law enforcement.
Well, they are supposed to be trained in first aid. If they can get there faster and administer triage, that could save a life. You don't think it's worth that?

Motorcycle cops have one of the best cost/value ratios in ANY city. They enforce traffic laws that enable the funding of other units.
When arriving at an accident their first responsibilty is to make the scene safe. It is unknown how many additional accidents were prevented because they got to the scene first.
The police on their crotch rockets need to slow down. I too have seen them riding dangerously. I dont see any need to completely get rid of them but they should be obeying the laws of the road too. For their own safety.
To the person who said the cycles cost to much. How silly is that? You think filling up a Kawasaki is cheaper then filling up a Crown Vic 3 times a day? Motorcycle cops especially for the NHP is crucial when someone needs immediate attention. They can cut through traffic and get their faster then any other car or emergency vehicle.....I would like NHP to target the Asian drivers who are doing 40 mph in the fast lane. This is beyond dangerous and it's needs to be addressed. People doing 10 mph are not the nuisance. It's the slow drivers. Promise you that!
Police 101
Amen! Hard to think of two easier things driving than signally lane changes and getting out of the fast lane. Yet every day scores of morons can't do either.
Mred,
Do you even read the things you post here?
When was the last time you saw a police officer in any type of vehicle transport someone to a hospital?
Also, you need to do research before posting about things you know nothing about. There are far less accidents with the motor officers then there are the guys in the cars.
I know, facts are not part of your world but you should try it some time.
Another idiotic comment by mred...
Hope the trooper is okay...
Than not then. Then not than. That drives me crazy.
vegaslee, the sooner you realize mred is an idiot and spews racist off the cuff no fact based comments , the better off you will be....just read them and laugh ...no response needed, just wonder how somebody can be so angry and lost and still make it through the day
TY Vegaslee, Nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks mred is just a troll.
Rockme, there's (not theres, not theirs) a whole lot of misuse of proper English that drives me crazy TOO (not to, not two ) Sad that those from other Countries also read these comments and see just how illiterate some Americans really are (not our).
