Oh, brothel! Let’s get over Harry Reid vs. hookers

Reid vs Hookers

Brian Taylor

Maybe if he were a Republican … Maybe if there were an upcoming election ... But he’s not and there isn’t, so why is Harry Reid going after legal brothels? And why’s he doing it now?

Before a joint session of the state Legislature, the Senate majority leader argued that closing down legal brothels would boost the state’s economy. He offered this slogan in support: “Nevada needs to be known as the first place for innovation and investment, not as the last place where prostitution is still legal.”

It’s a tough argument to make, considering that brothels pay up to $100,000 a year to various Nevada counties, which spend the money on emergency services and veterans programs.

According to Reid, “If we want to attract business to Nevada that puts people back to work, the time has come for us to outlaw prostitution.” Of course, the only businesses that really want legal brothels out of Nevada are Christian bookstores and illegal brothels. And even the Christian bookstores don’t hate the brothels; more sin = more Christian book sales.

So why is Reid pushing this so hard right now?

Well, he’s isn’t. The brothel argument was a small part of a long speech. But the media picked up on it, and now Reid has to deal with the consequences and answer questions.

Well, not really. When questioned by the press about his stance, Reid replied, “It seems to me you guys should all get a new life and talk about something important.”
