Las Vegas mayoral candidate Steve Ross recently called out Mayor Oscar Goodman and County Commissioner Larry Brown for policies he says hurt the city.

Now, he's turning his attention to Gov. Brian Sandoval.

Ross, a Democratic city councilman, sent a letter today to Sandoval, a Republican, urging him to fund deferred maintenance projects at the College of Southern Nevada. The projects would cost millions of dollars.

"If the state of Nevada were to issue general obligation bonds to fund these projects, not only would thousands of jobs be created, but this investment would extend the useful life of state owned facilities," Ross wrote.

Ross has made job creation the centerpiece of his campaign.

"The state of Nevada should do its part to help put thousands of construction workers back to work ... today, not down the road," Ross said.

Ross' request is likely to go unheeded. Sandoval is working to cut state spending and debt, not increase it.

Ross also called for Sandoval and the Senate to support a bill that would help the Clark County School District make repairs to dilapidated schools, another move that would create jobs. The Assembly passed the bill (A.B. 183) Friday.

"With 15 percent unemployment in Las Vegas, creating jobs shouldn't be an afterthought," Ross said. "Jobs should be the only thought."
