LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Perhaps Clark County could be the 51st state

There has been recent discussion of the possibility of Pima County, Ariz., (containing Tucson) seceding from Arizona and forming the 51st state. Some of those in the relatively liberal county think they have little in common with the rest of that conservative state. Pima would have a population greater than that of seven states.

If this makes sense for Pima County, there is no doubt in my mind that Clark County should secede from Nevada. We would have a population greater than that of 13 states.

As it is now, we have 70 percent of Nevada’s population and have little in common with the rest of the state (except Reno) and its rural counties.

We could have our own governor, U.S. senators and members of the House of Representatives — and let the rest of the state go on its merry conservative way.
