The UNLV football team will not have a Mountain West Conference game until the middle of October, when it plays at Wyoming.

The official 12-game schedule was released Thursday and includes five home games and contests against three teams that finished in the top 10 last year. Also, the Rebels (2-11 in 2010) have two bye weeks for the first time since 2003.

“I have been kind of worried about practice today. I haven’t had time diagnose it,” UNLV coach Bobby Hauck said following the Rebels’ Thursday spring practice. “I would say the way it is set up is a little interesting. Beyond that, it is hard to comment.”

The Rebels open the season with a pair of road games — Sept. 3 at Wisconsin and Sept. 10 at Washington State. UNLV lost to Wisconsin at home in last year’s season opener, 41-21.

UNLV’s home opener is Sept. 17 against Hawaii, which will join the Mountain West next fall. UNLV also has home games Sept. 24 against Southern Utah of the Football Bowl Subdivision, Oct. 29 against Colorado State, Nov. 5 versus league newcomer Boise State and Nov. 26 to close the home slate against San Diego State.

The other road games are: Oct. 8 at UNR in the Fremont Cannon game, Oct. 15 at Wyoming, Nov. 12 at New Mexico, Nov. 19 at Air Force, and Dec. 3 at TCU to close the season. It’s the second straight season UNLV has played a December game, which for some doesn’t make sense considering the Rebels have two bye weeks.

It will be TCU’s last game in the Mountain West before moving to the Big East Conference. Last fall, TCU finished No. 2 nationally and won the Rose Bowl.

“We have a tough schedule. We’ll have our hands full with some stretches of road games,” Hauck said. “I could talk about the way it is structured and all of that, but you know what, that won’t change anything. It is what it is. We are only going to worry about what we can control.”

Game times and television information will be determined later.
