It’s not often we get Alvin Ailey dancers mixing it up onstage with a local company. Or a guest cellist brought in for an artistic director’s new debut. In fact, there’s so much specialness happening at Nevada Ballet Theatre’s spring series this weekend, if ever the company were accused of presenting a something-for-everyone type of show, this would be it.

This weekend’s concert is another in a series merging classical and contemporary ballet. Aptly titled “The Tried and True and the New,” it includes George Balanchine’s one-act ballet, Donizetti Variations, Ailey’s “A Song for You” (featuring Ailey dancer Matthew Rushing), NBT artistic director James Canfield’s new pas de deux, “Still” (featuring cellist/composer Adam Hurst), Lar Lubovitch’s “Concerto Six Twenty-Two” (Rushing and Ailey’s Clifton Brown) and Matthew Neenan’s “At the Border.”
