Larry Brown highlights his budget savvy in new ad

Clark County Commissioner Larry Brown's second campaign commercial in the Las Vegas mayoral race will hit the airwaves Friday.

It compares the fiscal records of the six leading candidates: Brown, Councilman Steve Ross, Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani, businessman Victor Chaltiel and former school administrator Carolyn Goodman.

"Every candidate for mayor will tell you they'll watch out for your tax dollars," a voice in the ad says. "But only one has a proven record of actually cutting wasteful spending - Larry Brown, a true budget hawk."

"Larry was the first to call for zero-based budgeting - not yesterday, but back in the 90s. He pushed for and got cuts to lucrative firefighter and public employee contracts. And Larry Brown was the only vote against increasing city council pay."

The ad addresses one of the challenges Brown will have to overcome in this race: the public's ire over alleged sick leave abuses by county firefighters. As a member of the Clark County Commission, Brown is perceived by many to have been in a position to stop the overtime scam.

Brown's strength is his budget knowledge. Expect to hear more ads highlighting that coming down the pike.
